Back from Korea

I’ve just returned from a trip to Korea, working in my other life as a Theatrical wigmaker. I didn’t find time to visit any art galleries but their artistry is evident everywhere you look. In such a land as Korea mingling with the everyday artists, where the little touches of finesse buoy the mundane to a higher level. Understated creativity abounds. I will write more on this another time… I am just learning to have a relationship with my website. The idea of blogging seems pretentious and self serving and way too revealing possibly??, yet as with most things, there are two sides to every coin and flipping the heavy old rusty blog coin, might be self serving and a serving way? Theres a lot to explore with the Korean aesthetic, an old civilisation that fed its artistry through to Japan… More to write another day.

Warming

I worked with the studio doors open for the first time today…..with just the screen mesh door between me and the welcome warmer winds…. and the thrush has returned to her nest above the door and laid her first egg.

This winter has been long and the wood stove in the corner though cosy most days, wasn’t hot enough to prevent the flooding… Luckily all my water colour papers and rolls of canvas were hoisted high enough up off of my studio floor to stay dry. The de-humidifier has earned its keep and played a great role in drying my paintings too. So the air flow through is especially welcome as I have recently returned to oil painting after over a year of working with acrylics. I had forgotten how buttery and luminous oils are working a la prima. Covid I know was so awful for most people but for me the past two years of being quieter and less social has been gorgeous. Playing, exploring and experimenting. Zoom calls across the globe with other artists I never would have met if not of the explosion of online communications that have replaced the face to face. I have discovered Disrupted realism which suits me so well being somewhat uncomfortable sitting in representational realism or abstract genres. I’m excited with what is coming, what is warming in my art practice right now.

New work

A long time between drinks… and I’m excited about my work at the moment.. a series of floral designs… It feels like I want to crawl inside the flower to experience it’s beauty more wholeheartedly.

TWELVE OPENING BECOMES A CLOSING PARTY

New covid restrictions means we must postpone our opening on May 8th…. We plan to move the celebration to the 15th and make it a closing party. The musician is booked and the bottles of bubbly are waiting… Hopefully we can see everyone there that night… a little bit unusual but these are unusual times… Some red dots appearing on these lovely works… Well done ladies.

"Twelve" exhibition.

What a great day Sunday was setting up our group show Twelve at the Art Passage.

8 enthusiastic artists responding to their collective journey of completing Julia Cameron’s 12 week course called “The Artists Way” It was a day of sharing in person for the first time after 4 months on our whatsApp group. We helped each other unwrap the works, decide on hanging to the best advantage and toasting our success and happiness with some bubbly. It opens this Saturday May 8th.

Concertina book

After a week in the National Park, sketching and painting. I posted a small 6x10cm watercolour concertina book on the hand made books FB site.

Travelling

APRIL 7TH 2021

Art is my oxygen.

Packing my art bag to head into the Murramarang National park NSW south coast for a week in a beach cabin.

Acrylic inks, acrylic paints, watercolours and oil pastels… some primed thick paper and an Arches W.C. pad.

Going off grid for a week is good for my soul… along with some swimming fishing, yoga, good food and plenty of ART.

I will post some finished works when I get back.
